Chelsea Ballet Schools was established 40 years ago by Dorothy Ind. Based in the heart of Kensington and Chelsea, we provide dancing classes to children of all ages in our own out of school venues and within independent schools. Our wish is for our pupils to experience dancing as a pleasure and a memory, cherished after childhood, which encourages an appreciation of ballet, music and movement into adult life.
Correct deportment, graceful physical development and confidence emerge naturally from this training. Many of our pupils have progressed to professional schools and associate training programmes leading to successful careers as professional dancers.
Our Mission is to teach children of all ages to dance and through this medium enhance their lives.
We Believe that any child can benefit from our classes and enjoy dancing regardless of natural ability.
Our Objective is to encourage the highest possible standard within every pupil’s competence but equally for them to have fun.
Dorothy Ind trained at the Arts Educational Schools where subsequently she was appointed Head of Dance and later became Chairman of the board of Governors.
Her combined love of dance, natural gift for teaching and connection with, and understanding of, children have brought Chelsea Ballet Schools to its position of
History & Development
Dorothy Ind’s powerful commitment to perfection at Chelsea Ballet Schools has been supported by an alumni that greatly valued this training and our classes now include many second generation pupils enjoying their introduction to dance.
Chelsea Ballet Schools is responsible for several thousand pupils in London and the Southern Home Counties. As the school steadily expanded and flourished Dorothy Ind recruited excellent, highly trained teachers and although no longer teaching herself, is a very active Principal frequently visiting the venues and overseeing the organisation of the classes.
Since its inception Chelsea Ballet Schools has given performances in support of the NSPCC, Kids Company and more recently English National Ballet. There is an ongoing association with the company, giving pupils the opportunity to dance with English National Ballet Principals and dancers in Nutcracker Christmas Galas.
