About This Class

In the Cecchetti syllabus, the Senior Certificate 1 is an advanced level that follows the completion of the Standard 4. The Senior Certificate level focuses on refining technique, enhancing artistry, and preparing students for a professional career in ballet. Advanced Technique: Students continue to develop their technical proficiency, focusing on perfecting their alignment, turnout, and strength. They refine their execution of complex movements, including turns, jumps, and intricate footwork. Pointe Work (for female students): Female students further advance their pointe work skills, refining their technique and developing greater strength and control while dancing on pointe. Repertoire: Students learn and perform challenging variations and excerpts from classical ballet repertoire. They study the stylistic nuances and technical demands of renowned ballets, embodying the characters and performing with artistry and precision. Pas de Deux: Students are introduced to partnering work, where male and female dancers learn to collaborate and perform lifts, supported turns, and synchronized movements together. Character Dance: Students explore the diverse styles of character dance, which involves portraying folk and national dances from various countries. They learn the distinctive steps, gestures, and characterizations associated with different cultural dance forms. Choreography and Improvisation: Students engage in choreographic exercises, learning the principles of creating their own dances and exploring their creativity. They may also practice improvisation, honing their ability to spontaneously express movement and interpret music. Performance Skills: Students refine their stage presence, projection, and expressive abilities. They may have opportunities to perform in professional settings, participate in competitions, or showcase their skills in productions or recitals. Professional Preparation: Students receive guidance on audition techniques, resume building, and career development in the ballet industry. They may have the opportunity to participate in masterclasses and workshops conducted by renowned guest teachers and choreographers.
